MATRIX TIMELINE:

2035 – The AI is brought on line

2037 – The AI begins designing factories to build AI controlled robots. Pollution continued to take its toll on nature, as the ozone layer is practically gone. Parts of the world are uninhabitable causing a shift of populations to better climates. The "Super Cities" begin to develop.

2040 – The robot factories begin production under AI control. Other factories follow suit. The beginning of total automation.

2050 – The desire for leisure activities grows as all production is now automated. Research into virtual reality increases.

2060 – The first "brain-jack’ simulations are created (an early precursor to the matrix).

2063 – Dr. Alex Kane begins work on the secretive "Project China," a scientific research center base deep underground.

2064 – The beginnings of anti-gravity technology begin.

2069 – The Nebuchadnezzar is commissioned.

2072 – "Project China" base is completed. It contains the only mainframe computer not somehow linked to the AI network.

2073 – The AI becomes self-aware, sentient.

2075 – The Final War begins due to increasing economic and trade conflicts between Asia and the US.

2079 – The AI refuses to participate in the war and begins to cut production of anything war related. War escalates through desperation.

2081 – The Nations unite against the AI as they have found it is interfering with their own politics.

2084 – The sun is blocked out by the Nations’ use of nuclear weapons and an enormous fire that burns through the remaining rainforests of South America and Africa. The global temperature begins to plummet. Mankind’s future looks dim.

2088 – The War ends when the last humans relinquish control to the AI. The humans are interned and the AI begins work on project "Rebirth" in an attempt to save what is left of the Earth and Humanity. A small group of human refugees band together at "Project China." Dr. Kane, under the delusion the AI has taken over the world, begins work on an AI virus program (designed to regain control of the AI).

2090 – Unable to clothe and feed the remaining humans while trying to rebuild the Earth the AI looks into suspended animation.

2091 – Terra-forming of Earth by the AI begins.

2093 – Coma and sleep induced states prove unsatisfactory. AI begins work on first full VR matrix.

2098 – Dr. Kane dies. The virus program is completed and the humans look for a way to deliver it in to the AI consciousness.

2100 – The first matrix (Eden) is completed.

2112 – Humans are unable to fully accept false reality. Many humans are lost to psychosis.

2120 – Second matrix is finished.

2122 – AI virus is introduced into the AI consciousness. It causes a change in the root programming by mistake that causes the AI not to recognize any humans outside the matrix. Kane is born.

2135 – The Oracle is born.

2140 – Shadow is born

2151 – Morpheus is born.

2157 – Kane makes contact with "Project China."

2165 – The Resistance is set up by Kane. Shadow is recruited. First matrix extractions are made. Ai recognizes the Resistance as a dangerous virus and designs "Agent Programs" to prevent it from interfering with the AI’s plans.

2167 – Kane is killed. Cypher, Trinity, and Neo are born.

2190 – Cypher and Trinity are unplugged.
